ICTS in ESO
Today we live in a constantly up-to-date world, and teachers must take advantage of it. It must be difficult for some people to spot fake news or hoaxes. Younger generations are used to the technology but do they know what lies behind the information spread through it?
As teachers of a Foreign Language (FL) and as part of the curricula given by the Valencian Community (which includes de digital key competence), it is in our hands to teach our students to make appropriate use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
In block 5 of the cross-curricular elements at the ESO cycle, it has been established that the digital competence should be developed by working with search engines, to contrast, filter and verify the information. Students will create blogs, take and edit pictures or videos, being able to build content, share it and use tools to communicate with others, such as the electronic mail or writing comments on forums. Their skills will improve once they know how to present information digitally or how to evaluate the information they have access to, by requesting and looking for the authorship or making presentations in the English class.
The ICTs facilitate the autonomous learning process, self-regulation, and assessment as well as the oral communication and written expression in digital contexts.
Having regard to all its advantages, let us introduce them to the FL classroom!
